Ukiah Japanese Smokehouse is a restaurant in Asheville, North Carolina. It is listed at 121 Biltmore Ave, Asheville, NC 28801, which places it among the local businesses of Asheville that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.
This group covers the non-Asian restaurants, cafes, bars and food businesses that also appear in a mixed-cuisine food scene, including American diners, pizza, Mexican food, burgers, steakhouses and bakeries. Standard US restaurant norms apply: lunch and dinner service with a quieter stretch between, cards and tap-to-pay accepted almost everywhere, and a tip of 15-20% customary for table service. Fast food and quick-service counters expect payment up front and tipping is optional. Bars check ID for anyone who looks under 30, and the drinking age is 21 nationwide. Many restaurants in this group take reservations online through third-party platforms, while casual and fast-food spots are walk-in only. Sales tax is added at the register on top of the menu price and varies by city and state, so the final total is usually a few percent higher than the posted prices suggest.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 5β9:30 pm. Asheville is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Asheville is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across North Carolina's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

My partner and I left our dinner at Ukiyah impressed by the food, service, and atmosphere. Our server was attentive but not overbearing, answered our questions with expert knowledge and everyone who brought food to our table explained all the ingredients and were courteous, as well! We had the pork bao buns, pork ramen, Japanese street corn, scallop skewers, and the smoked pork shoulder with all of it's delicious side dishes; the pork belly was a standout in both the buns and ramen, and the corn was a star, surprisingly! The atmosphere was definitely on the louder side, but it was still a nice, well-appointed interior for a great meal. Ukiyah is definitely worth a visit on a weekend trip to Asheville!

Ukiah Japanese Smokehouse in Asheville, NC, offers a unique fusion of Japanese soul food and American BBQ, featuring small plates, smoked meats, ramen, and creative cocktails in a rustic setting with an open kitchen. Our server, Jill, was such a vibe, she was so helpful with guiding us through the menu. We ordered/tried it all. The cocktail menu was so well thought out and included so many delicious but different options. We were a group of 4 and ordered everything pictured. If youβre in Asheville, I highly recommend!

This place has been on my radar since I moved here years ago. After reserving a table I finally went. Super cool atmosphere, the servers are friendly, the food is really good. We decided to try the Chef tasting menu which is 9 small plates that come out so you can try a bit of everything a perfect way to test the waters so you'll know what to get for the next time. I really enjoyed most of what came. The wagyu strak and brisket were my favorites. A very cool place to take your date or just to check out something out of the norm. I will return.

Hands down amazing dining experience! Our server, Sela was incredibly knowledgeable of the menu and answered any questions we had with no hesitation. Sela was also very friendly! The food and the drinks were top tier. We had the Carolina Smoked Pork Shoulder, Crispy Baby Back Ribs, and the Japanese Sweet Potato. The drinks were βNot a Flower in the Dayβ and βItβs Bourbon Timeβ. Everything was just amazing and I hope to come again next visit!

My wife and I stopped here for our first time, celebrating our engagement anniversary. We were completely blown away by the food quality. A+ all around. Presentation and flavor were also A+. This will be a new must stop for my wife and I whenever we visit Asheville. Hat tip to the chef(s) for the high bar theyβre setting. The menu is exciting and you can try quite a bit. We did a lot of their seafood but also tried the smoked chicken. My mouth is watering thinking about it all again. The sweet potato was dessert-like. The star of each dish was complemented nicely with wonderful flavors. A mix between bold and down to earth if I had to try to describe it. Wonderful restaurant here and we canβt wait to visit again!
